Partnership for Peace occurs as NATO project aimed at creating trust between NATO and more states around two Europe as well as a Asian part of the previous Soviet Union. It was created around 1994, soon fallowing a collapse of the previous Eastern bloc.

Ten states which were members (Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia) have sinced joined NATO itself.
